Top Digital Wardrobe Apps (2025) Complete Review Guide
Unlock the Power of a Digital Wardrobe and Maximize Your Closet: Organize, Create, Discover, and more!
We’ve all stood in front of our closet feeling uninspired, frustrated, and defeated. The floor is scattered with clothes we’ve tried on and discarded, leaving us thinking we have nothing to wear. But the reality is, most of us wear only a small portion of our wardrobe consistently, while many clothes gather dust. This is where digital wardrobe apps come in.
By digitizing your closet with a wardrobe app you can plan outfits ahead of time, track important information, and explore new outfit combinations without the mess. Some apps even use AI-powered outfit generators to help you put together stylish looks effortlessly! Digital wardrobes are also useful due to their statistics, which can help you organize at a glance, track washing instructions, calculate cost per wear, and more!
Why Digitize My Wardrobe?
You may be asking, ‘why digitize my closet?’ Let’s break down some of the benefits of a digital wardrobe:
Save time - Plan outfits in advance or view your clothing options on-the-spot without even having to get out of bed. This makes early mornings or preparing for big events a breeze.
Shop smarter - Gain a clear overview of your wardrobe and easily identify gaps. For instance, you might realize you have plenty of t-shirts but not a single tank top.
Declutter - Easily identify the clothes you never wear and make room for the items you love.
Get the most out of your wardrobe - Experiment with new outfit combinations without making a mess of your closet or utilize an AI outfit generator to spark creativity.
Save money - Stop buying duplicate items by forgetting what’s already in your closet. A digital wardrobe helps you avoid unnecessary purchases.
How Do Digital Wardrobe Apps Work?
While considering digitizing your closet, you may find yourself wondering ‘Okay…but how do they work?’ These apps tend to use one of four business models to stay up and running:
Pay-to-Use Model: Requires a flat, one-time payment (such as a download or sign-up fee) or a monthly/annual subscription fee. This guide will be avoiding these apps in favor of free-to-use models.
Ad-Supported Model: Many apps run on ads, showing advertisements after uploading clothes or creating outfits. While a lot of the apps started out this way, many are now shifting away from this model.
Affiliate or Sales Commission Models: These apps allow you to shop for clothes from brands or individual sellers. They earn a commission on purchases made through the app, similar to platforms like Mercari.
Service Models: Apps that offer premium services, such as personal styling, typically allow free access to the basic wardrobe features while charging for more personalized services.
How to Digitize Your Wardrobe in 4 Easy Steps
‘So I’ve decided to digitize my wardrobe…what do I have to do?’
Ready to digitize your closet? Well, you’re in luck. I’ve compiled a simple step-by-step guide to get started in 4 easy parts:
Set aside a few hours and get everything out of your closet - All digital wardrobe apps will start with the same step: uploading your clothes. It’s best to do this all at once so you can be sure that you don’t miss anything. This is also a great opportunity to declutter and organize your clothes.
Snap away - Simply snap clear, standalone photos of each item. Some apps have specific requirements, like laying flat rather than hanging up, but the ones on this list are pretty forgiving! The best wardrobe apps will then use AI to automatically remove the background. Many details will then be auto-generated, which is a great time-saver. However, I always recommend double-checking - I’ve had sweaters categorized as dresses, not to mention personal preference over whether something is a shirt or blouse, sweater or cardigan.
Categorize - Once you’ve uploaded a photo of your item, you’ll be prompted to put in a few details such as size, brand, category, and season. Some wardrobe apps will auto-fill this information to safe time, but you can always edit or add to them if you’re short on time and want to save this step for later. Remember: learning how to digitize your wardrobe is about making life earlier for yourself, so consider what is important to you. I don’t use all of the tags, but I always make sure to add in details such as type of clothing and color.
Start using your digital wardrobe - Now the fun begins! Explore the outfits section of your digital wardrobe or ask your AI stylist to suggest a new outfit idea for the day. Track your clothing usage to identify what you don’t wear and what you might want more of. Check your wardrobe app before buying anything new to avoid duplications or items without matching clothes.
GetWardrobe
Uploading
GetWardrobe allows users to upload items by taking or uploading photos as well as by using links from retailers. You can categorize each item and add details like brand, title, status, color, season, purchase price/date and even care instructions! Additionally, each item can be marked private for only you to see, viewable to your followers, or public for anyone using the app to see. You can upload up to five photos per item, giving you the flexibility to showcase them from various angles, lightings, and environments.
Don’t forget to use your outfit section to display different styles as well! As a note, outfits can only be put together with uploaded clothes - no photos of outfits can be uploaded. When adding items, it’s important to note that GetWardrobe has a clothing limit - and a rather tight one at that. Free users are limited to just 100 items in their wardrobe, with an option to upgrade to a premium plan for $5/month or $35/year.
Viewing My Wardrobe
Opening the GetWardrobe app will take you to a screen tracking your number of clothing items. The second tab at the bottom will show the actual wardrobe, sortable by item category, as well as season, status, size, color and brand. The middle tab allows users to add new clothing items, create outfits, and make packing lists.
Outfit Creation
The outfit creation features are pretty basic. There are two ways to independently create outfits: ‘By combinations’ displays selected items in a grid, allowing you to clearly view each item; while ‘Advanced Editor’ allows users to build a free-form collage, which can offer a more realistic idea of how the items will all look together.
AI Get Wardrobe will generate outfit suggestions based on the items you ask to be included (i.e. pants, shirt, shoes, and outerwear, but no bag or jewelry). The items used can additionally be filtered by season, status, size, color, tag, and brand. During outfit generation with AI Get Wardrobe, you will encounter short ads.
Additional Features
GetWardrobe also offers a premium service which expands the wardrobe capacity; removes adds;allows for additional pictures; provides access to ‘stylists or assistants’; packing lists; packing checklists; selecting and editing multiple items at once; shared wardrobes; and statistics. For reference, as you have read above, these are largely free services in comparable apps. The ‘Community’ tab also allows users to explore new looks and fashion trends.
Review
Despite the pretty limited storage of 100 clothing items for free users and the presence of ads, GetWardrobe is a solid option for smaller wardrobes. It’s also perfect for those who want to organize a niche collection, such as workwear or vacation outfits. The 5 pictures per item limit may be tight for some, but has always given me enough ways to show off my clothes! GetWardrobe’s premium version includes expanded storage, additional photos, the ability to edit multiple items, packing lists, shared wardrobes, and access to stylists. For reference, these are largely free services in comparable apps, with the exception of access to stylists.
Pros: Add clothing items through retail links. Offers all the basic functionality with little hassle. Community tab.
Cons: 100 item maximum upload for free-to-use wardrobe. No photo upload for outfits. Advertisements. No statistics.
Best for: those with small closets who regularly shop online and aren’t looking for fancy features.
ACloset
Uploading
ACloset offers an easy uploading process for clothing items: just snap a new picture or upload one from your device. When uploading, ACloset also gives the option to add multiple items at once. Each clothing item can have seemingly endless pictures attached to showcase various looks and environments. Once you’ve uploaded your item, you can add just about as much or as little information about the article of clothes as you’d like! Tags like season, material, and occasion make organizing your wardrobe a breeze, though sizes must be manually entered in the ‘notes’ section. Most brands are already added and easy to find.
When adding items, it’s important to note that GetWardrobe has a clothing limit - and a rather tight one at that. With the free-to-pay version, users are limited to adding 100 articles of clothing. There are three levels of premium that expand your storage capacity by varying degrees. In the early days of this app, there were advertisements after pretty much every single upload. Thankfully, the app has much less ads these days.
Viewing My Wardrobe
Upon opening the ACloset app you’ll be greeted by your digital closet. Here you can view your whole wardrobe and sort by category, color, price, or frequency of wear. From here you can also create additional closets, which is immensely helpful for anyone who splits time between two houses or wants to create a packing list to both ensure enough clothes are bought and ease outfit decisions while traveling. In this section you can also create idea books, schedule outfit-of-the-days, and get AI generated outfits based on the occasion or weather.
Outfit Creation
There are additionally three types of independent outfit creation tools for maximum flexibility: ‘Place freely’ allows users to make a collage with no rules; ‘ACloset Layout’ is a similar collage with pre-set section placement; and ‘Select by category’ which allows users to swipe through clothes by outerwear, tops, bottoms, shoes, etc to assemble an outfit one item at a time while being able to see the items together in real time.
Additional Features
The outfit of the day feature makes it easy to both log previous outfits and plan ahead. Aside from its basic wardrobe functions, ACloset also includes a fashion feed to view new trends and inspire your wardrobe. Unfortunately there are no user statistics available without a premium subscription. The app has made some changes such as removing the re-sale portion of the app and reducing the push for social features. Additionally, new outfit creation tools have been added and improved.
Review
Despite the limited closet size and lack of statistics, ACloset is a standout choice for outfit creation and inspiration. The AI’s ability to learn from user feedback and the variety of outfit creation tools make this app a favorite for small closet owners.
Pros: ACloset AI learns from feedback you provide. Wide variety of outfit creation options. Feed.
Cons: 100 item maximum upload for free-to-use wardrobe. Some ads. No statistics without premium.
Best for: those with small closets looking to explore and generate new outfit designs
Whering
Uploading
Whering allows users to upload items from their camera roll, take a new photo, search a database using key words, or browse and upload from the web. You can also add multiple photos at once! Details on the item are separated into ‘about’, ‘styling’, and ‘details’. About includes basic information such as category, brand, state, price, size, color, status, and location. The styling section lets you add tags and seasons. The details tab helps track usage, fabric, care details, and provides a space for miscellaneous comments. Unfortunately, each item is limited to only 2 photos, but you can always see different uses in your outfit, lookbook, and moodboard!
There are a few challenges with Wherings item upload. As the app was developed overseas, the sizes are set for the UK by default and must be manually changed to US sizing each time. There is currently no feature to change default sizing. There is unfortunately no custom size input, and a few of my clothing options were unavailable, such as odd numbered pants and petite options. There are also quite a few brands not listed. Luckily, they can be entered manually, though the process may be a bit glitchy at times.
Outfit Creation
In the digital styler, you will find three options: ‘Dress Me’, canvas, and moodboards.
Dress Me is an amazing feature that allows users to swipe through items and select one of each top, bottom, shoe, etc to create an outfit. The items displayed can be filtered by favorites, color, season, and brand, with additional options to change number of items in the outfit. Once created, the outfit can be saved or added to your lookbook. The canvas tab takes you to the same outfit creation as the planner which allows you to stack items in a collage. Moodboards allow you to add images to create outfit inspiration. Unfortunately, Wearing does not currently offer AI outfit creation.
Additional Features
When you open the app, you’ll find yourself on the ‘Community’ page with quick links at the top to upload items, create outfits, schedule outfits, and view statistics. You can also add friends to show off your styles and follow stylists to gain inspiration. Here you can also find fashion articles. The bottom has tabs to plan and create outfits, use the digital styler, and view your wardrobe. While the app previously featured an additional tab with a digital marketplace, this feature has since been removed in app updates. In the Community tab you can also ‘view my stats’ to tracks data such as value, usage, and ‘what’s in my wardrobe’.
Viewing My Wardrobe
Your uploaded wardrobe can be viewed from the tab on the bottom right and sorted by tops, bottoms, or full body (such as dresses). Under filters, you’ll find the ability to view by subcategories, colors, location, status, tags, season, state, brand, fabrics as well as options to sort by first/last added; most/least worn; highest/lowest cost per wear. Items can also be added to your favorites and removed from view without being deleted. This section is wonderful for wardrobe management, though for quick outfit creation, I opt for the ‘Dress Me’ canvas.
Review
As an American user, having to manually switch to US sizing each time felt like an unnecessary pain which could have easily been alleviated by a region-specific default sizing option. Additionally, the lack of AI outfit creation tools felt like a loss, though the ‘Dress Me’ feature is such a favorite I almost didn’t mind! The limited photos may also be a turn-off for some. Between the marketplace and inspiration feed, I found this app needlessly busy. All of that aside, the app has a lot to offer in terms of storage space, outfit creation, comments, and statistics.
Pros: Dress Me feature is amazing. No push for premium. Location feature helps plan weather specific outfits. Clothing status feature helps find clothes easily. Community tab.
Cons: No AI outfit creator. Limited number of photos (2). Sizing is in UK by default making adding items frustrating and weather is shown in celsius.
Best for: UK users and independent outfit creation.
Open Wardrobe
Uploading
When adding an item, Open Wardrobe allows users to choose from pictures of common items, take a photo, or upload from your device. You can also add seemingly endless photos at once to showcase each piece in various settings. Once you’ve uploaded your item, you can add just about as much or as little information about the article of clothes as you’d like! All clothes include detailed tags to categorize your wardrobe by type, brand, size, purchase price, date purchased, primary/secondary colors, primary/secondary materials, and season.
Jewelry, footwear, and other accessories come with additional options to further customize your item details. Jewelry includes options to select the style of bracelet, earring, necklace, or ring as well as stone type(s) and metal type; while footwear has unique tags such as boot hight, heel hight, toe style, toe type (open/closed), and design details.
Viewing My Wardrobe
Your wardrobe can be easily viewed from the home page with multiple sorting options, including category, wear frequency, color, and upload date. You can also select items by brand, color, patten, season, or manually select items individually to organize. After clicking on an item you’ll be able to view it’s photos, times worn, and cost per wear immediately. In details you’ll be able to view all listed information including category, type, brand, size, price, date purchased, primary/secondary colors, pattern, seasons, primary/secondary material, fit, length, style, occasion, and notes.
The app tracks valuable metrics like cost per wear and offers detailed statistics on your wardrobe in ‘style statistics’ under the ‘more’ tab. Here, you will also find a convenient place to store body measurements for quick reference while shopping. In addition to your main wardrobe, you can also create a packing list to pre-plan your trip or navigate outfits without dumping out the whole suitcase.
Outfit Creation
On the main page you’ll also find tabs titled ‘Outfits’ and ‘Looks’. In ‘Outfits’ you’ll be able to create outfits independently or using ‘Ask LolaAI’. Be aware that in Open Wardrobe, you will not be able to generate outfits using Ask LolaAI without first adding footwear.
Independent outfit creation can be made in a grid, allowing you to view items separately or a collage where items can be layered. These creations can be tagged with their associated occasions and seasons. ‘Looks’ allows users to upload photos of their outfits in action. All in all, these three options provide a good variance in outfit creation features, but none of them stand out as spectacular or unique.
Additional Features
Your ‘Main Wardrobe’ page includes fast links to the ‘Outfit’ and ‘Look’ tabs, as well as three icons in the top right corner: ‘Statistics & Utilization’, an outfit of the day calendar, and settings. The outfit of the day calendar can help you keep track of use, avoid wearing duplicate outfits, and plan ahead! The ‘Statistics & Utilization’ page provides your number and percent of each item type, overall purchase value, colors, patterns, and brands.
Previously, this app contained two tabs: ‘Watch’ to view videos on style theory, app tutorials, and tips & tricks; as well as ‘Discover’ to view items, outfits, and looks from top stylists, individual creators, and ‘brands we love’. These tabs have since been combined to form the ‘Explore’ tab. In ‘Explore’, you will find a ‘Community’ section which essentially replaced discover, now separated by stylists and creators. The other tab ‘Resources’ now contains all the (free) information listed above. OpenWardrobes also offers ‘The Style Lab’ as a premium feature offering additional analytics into personal style traits, trend reports, and offering fashion workshops.
Review
The upload process on Open Wardrobe is pretty simple and the filters on the main wardrobe make the app easy to navigate my wardrobe at a glance, making this a go-to for busy and sleepy mornings. The unique ‘watch’ and ‘discover’ features are great ways to find new inspiration! Not being able to utilize AskLolaAI without having a full outfit selection can be a hindrance. For those who may only wear one or two pairs of shoes regularly, it can be an annoying added step to have to upload these shoes just to use the AI outfit generator.
Pros: Packing list. Place to store body measurements. Extensive tag/detail options, especially for accessories. Helpful statistics. ‘Explore’ section is more engaging than other apps.
Cons: Requires footwear for LolaAI to generate outfits. Service-based model pushes premium subscription.
Best for: those looking for an engaging social feed for inspiration; storing detailed information and track statistics.
Overall Review:
For small closets: For users with small closets or those looking to upload a niche wardrobe, ACloset outshines GetWardrobe. Both GetWardrobe and ACloset have an upload limit of 100 items for free-to-use accounts and lack statistics, but they each offer social spaces for inspiration—'Community' on GetWardrobe and 'Feed' on ACloset. Both apps offer free-form outfit creation collages (‘place freely’ in ACloset; ‘advanced editor’ in GetWardrobe) as well as pre-set collages (‘closet layout’ in ACloset; ‘AI GetWardrobe’ in GetWardrobe). While GetWardrobe offers a grid view to break down outfits by individual pieces and allows users to add items via retailer links, it is minimal in terms of AI-generated outfit suggestions. GetWardrobe is ideal for those with small closets who frequently shop online and prefer simplicity. However, ACloset takes the edge with its ‘Select by Category’ feature, (similar to Whering’s ‘Dress Me’), and its AI functionality which adapts based on individual user feedback. While ads are present, they have become less intrusive over time, making ACloset a more versatile choice.
For bigger closets: Whering stands out with a variety of features, including a location tracker for weather-specific outfits and a clothing status feature for easy item tracking. Additionally, there’s no push for a premium subscription, which is a big plus. The app performs all its basic features wonderfully, but is not without drawbacks. Sizing is in UK by default, temperature is in celsius, photos are limited to two per item, and there is no AI outfit creator. However, its ‘Dress Me’ and ‘Canvas’ features are more than enough for those who prefer independent outfit creation. Whering is best suited for UK users, those seeking a no-fuss experience, and fans of manual outfit creation. For most, OpenWardrobe wins out due to its detailed tags, robust and helpful statistics, and engaging social feed for inspiration. That said, OpenWardrobe pushes premium features more aggressively and its AI outfit creator isn’t as strong as others.
For Everyone: Each app caters to different needs, and there are plenty more out there to explore, such as Indyx and Clozzie. Uploading your entire wardrobe can be time-consuming, so it’s worth considering which features matter most to you. Whether you’re interested in outfit creation, inspiration feeds, or wardrobe management tools, each app has its strengths. Don’t hesitate to try a few apps with just a small portion of your closet to find the one that suits your style best.
